I had a cracking few hours on the Whittlesey Dyke on peg 299 just below the road bridge fishing through the ice

Local Tackle Shops Need Anglers Support

This is something that I have spent some time thinking about recently and feel should be of concern to us all,

Great Angling Weather (Not)

Another cold spell is starting to grip the country just as most venues around my area have nearly thawed out, this is a real shame as the last few day have been quite pleasant for this time of year and I am sure another few day like that would have seen sport improve. I suppose that at least river anglers have a better chance of finding some fishable ice free stretches than our counterparts that just fish commercials.

Sunday 12th December 2010

Well what can I say after a 100 mile round trip and 2 different swims I still haven’t got any good news to bring to you.

Sunday 5th Dec

Well what do you know, on the advice of someone who shall remain anonymous me and my fishing pal Graham fished the first 2 pegs above Cheremy bridge at Oundle and this was my view for the afternoon.

New Pole Dilemma: Part 1

I have recently been thinking about getting myself a new pole, so I thought that I would have a look at what is available to suite my needs. I Need a pole that I can fish comfortably at 13m that is well balanced, not too heavy, responsive and has enough match kits in the package, although I accept that I will probably need to buy some extra No 4 and 5 sections for river work.

Last weekends Catch

This is the sum total of my efforts on the river Nene at Elton last weekend, I suppose it could have been worse though because it was minus 3 degrees and I could have missed the bite. I really hope it warms up a bit for this weekend as I spent more time picking ice from my tip ring that I did fishing. Lets hope I am not posting a picture of just my hand on Sunday evening then.
                                                                                       Cheers Mark

Welcome to River Angler

Hi there,
Please let me introduce myself, my name is Mark Horsley and I am a Peterborough Uk based Angler and I have been fishing for over 40 years. Although I have no problem with Carp and Commercials I myself prefer to fish the Rivers, Canals and Drains of which there are numerous within an hours drive of my home. I used to fish matches both as an individual and as part of a team but now really just pleasure fish although I would not rule out a return should the current situation and lack of matches on natural venues change.
Through this Blog I plan to share with you my fishing exploits both good and bad, tell you about the venues I fish the methods and bait I use on a weekly basis. I also plan to talk about tackle, venues, shops and online dealers and anything that I feel you might find of use, interesting or just bloody funny.
Cheers for now Mark.
